There are some things you know are coming… but when they actually happen, they still hit a little different.
This is one of those.
Rich has officially retired.
No big send-off. No drawn-out goodbye. Just… done. And somehow that feels exactly right for who he is.
If you’ve been around this shop for any amount of time, you already know—Rich isn’t just “someone who worked here.” He’s part of the reason this place exists in the way it does. The way we look at a vehicle. The way we diagnose instead of guessing. The way we’ll stop a job before we do it wrong.
That didn’t happen by accident.
That came from years of doing it the hard way. The right way. Even when it cost more time. Even when it wasn’t what the customer wanted to hear.
Especially then.
Transmission work, drivability issues, the weird problems no one else could figure out… that was his lane. And he didn’t just do the work—he understood it. Fully. The kind of understanding you only get after decades of being in it every single day.
No shortcuts. No guessing. No “good enough.”
And if you’ve ever talked with him, you know—he wasn’t going to sugarcoat it for you either.
That standard is what built this place.
And that’s the part people don’t always see—shops don’t just become what they are. They’re shaped by the people who refuse to let them slip.
You don’t replace someone like that.
You carry it forward. Or you lose it.
Dave has spent years right next to him, learning in real time what that standard actually looks like in practice—not just how to fix things, but how to think through them. How to slow down when it matters. How to stand behind the work, even when it’s the harder path.
So, while this is a shift, it’s not a question mark.
It’s a continuation.
Because the goal here has never been to rush jobs out the door or tell people what they want to hear just to keep things easy.
It’s always been to do what the car actually needs.
That doesn’t change.
If your vehicle is here—or you’ve been thinking about bringing one in—nothing about what we do is suddenly different. We’re still focused on classics. Still drivetrain-first. Still honest, even when the answer isn’t the convenient one.
If anything, this moment locks that in even harder.
But we’re not just going to breeze past this like it’s business as usual.
Because it’s not.
Decades of knowledge just walked out the door—and left it behind in the best possible way. In how we work. In how we make decisions. In what we refuse to compromise on.
That matters.
Rich—thank you. For showing up every day. For doing the work the right way when it would’ve been easier not to. For teaching without making it a production. And for setting a standard that holds, whether you’re standing in the shop or not.
You’ve more than earned this.
And over here, we’re going to keep doing exactly what we’ve always done—
just with a very clear understanding of where that standard came from.
